audience of nearly one million. Seeking a personable visionary, experienced Web Production Manager with proven success
managing and leading a fast-paced, dynamic web production department. As the country's leading online source of
environmental news and analysis, we inform, inspire, and link America's next generation of green citizens. Our work has
garnered many awards and frequent citations in major media including The New York Times, Vanity Fair, National Public
Radio, and the London Independent.
This position will lead a team of five people responsible for the publication of all web content and projects related
to the web site. In addition to managing day to day publishing, we are seeking an energetic and experienced candidate to
help lead the team as the organization grows and expands. We are increasingly taking advantage of Web2.x publishing
opportunities - user-interactive content, dynamic syndication, social-distribution - which will be a significant focus
of this position. Production output will include traditional websites, RSS feeds, tailored email, audio, video, widgets,
and will evolve toward technologies that haven't been developed yet. The Web Production Manager will play a vital role
in daily publishing, coordinating schedules, priorities, and bridging the gap between our writers and our readers. This
position reports to the Director of Information Technology.
Responsibilities:
* Ensure timely publishing/deployment of all website content
* Oversee the processes and products used to support distribution of email newsletters and RSS feeds to subscribers
* Administer the content management systems used for the web content and site blog
* Ensure appropriate tracking and reporting of web statistics and web analytics
* Manage the production and implementation of podcasts, vodcasts and slideshows
* Oversee and coordinate projects across departments including marketing, business development, fund raising
* Manage and track advertisements on the site and coordinate with third party ad server organizations
* Assume a leadership role to support product and website changes to meet strategic goals
* Lead and develop team members
* Work with the team to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
* Coordinate, prioritize and distribute work within the team
Qualifications:
This position requires experience in the following areas:
* 2-5 years team management or supervisory experience; project management experience - particularly scheduling, and
meeting deadlines - a plus
* Ability to prioritize and juggle many assignments within the team; flexibility to adapt to change
* Attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality work
* Strong communication, problem solving and decision making skills
* Ability to see big picture and to recommend changes in line with organizational strategy and direction
Experience with the following is preferred:
* System librarianship -- content architecture and organization
* Content management and email list management
* Breadth of experience in multimedia publishing; experience with a variety of media distribution channels
* Online advertising
* Systems administration
* Google Analytics and log analytics
* Web development methodologies
* PHP, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML/RSS
* Myself and Apache
