Museum Communications Intern (a part-time temporary position) The Adler Planetarium is seeking a Museum
Communications Intern to work with the Director of Museum Communications and communications staff to provide support and
to assist in coordinating communications activities in service to The Adler Planetarium including programs, exhibitions,
and two new major show openings. Institution Description The Adler Planetarium – America’s First
Planetarium – was founded in 1930 by Chicago business leader, Max Adler. The museum has announced a new vision to
be the world’s premier space science center. The museum will inspire the next generation of explorers by
sharing the stories of human space exploration and America’s space heroes. The Adler is a recognized leader in
science education, with a focus on inspiring young people, particularly women and minorities, to pursue careers in
science. Qualifications Current college student or graduate. Communications or Journalism major preferred. Must
possess outstanding writing and communications skills with keen attention to detail and editing; excellent
organizational and interpersonal skills; a proven track record of prioritizing and completing multiple assignments and a
self-starter that is able to work both independently and within a team setting. Background with special events, media
relations or nonprofit experience a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is a requirement. Job Description
Assist in the daily activities of the Communications Department in the preparation of a major show opening as well as
day-to-day operations. Duties include marketing and editorial-related tasks, preparation and distribution of press
materials, vetting and servicing media inquiries, development and distribution of monthly and quarterly press
information, media monitoring, assisting in the coordination and execution of special events, generating and managing
appropriate press lists and general clerical duties. This internship position is an excellent opportunity for students
