The Sensor Systems Line of Business focuses on sensor and precision targeting systems. The Mission
Electronics area exploits state-of-the-art infrared, millimeter-wave, and laser technologies to design and fabricate
missile seekers, guided munitions, and target designators. The Infrared Imaging systems area produces uncooled IR
sensors and related systems for defense, civil and commercial applications. The area has three primary segments:
military ground imaging systems, surveillance sensors/systems, and commercial/industrial subsystems. The Sensor
Integration area produces robust, highly integrated, mission-critical equipment for detection, situational awareness,
and protection for U.S. and allied military forces and homeland security personnel. Key product areas include mine
countermeasures, countermeasure dispensers, laser warning systems, and unattended ground sensors. The Flight systems
business area provides military and commercial aircraft modification and upgrades, aircraft operations, flight test, and
aerial subscale and full-scale targets.PURPOSE:
This position will be based in Mojave, California. Candidate will
establish and manage an effective engineering team to support a large and complex aircraft program. Responsible to meet
established cost, schedule and technical requirements as defined in the program plan. Responsible for working to the
Engineering Plan, Hardware Development Plans, IPDP, Lifecycle Management plans and various company processes and
procedures. Leads the engineering activities on proposals. Works with the program manager, systems IPT engineering
manager, functional engineering managers, and IPT leads to ensure the effective engineering execution on the program.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinates and manages the engineering activities on the assigned program to
comply with cost, schedule and technical requirements and established engineering practices in order to meet program
commitments.
2. Serves as the Engineering focal point for the program for integrated plans, issues reporting, risk
management, and other prominent activity.
3. Coordinates the engineering cost, schedule and technical inputs to
support a competitive and executable proposal and obtains the appropriate approvals through engineering management.
4. Interfaces with managers, engineering cost account managers, design teams and functional engineering
organizations to obtain agreement on allocated requirements, to resolve/clarify/revise system level requirements issues
and ambiguities in configuration item design during the program development phase.
5. Develops the program specific
engineering plans by integrating all associated functional input. Ensures that the engineering staff adheres to the
approved plans by attending program control meetings, design reviews and by auditing processes, reviewing status and
communicating regularly with the cost account managers.
6. Reviews all technical changes to requirements from the
program office. Coordinates the analysis of the impact of technical changes to schedule/budget and ensures
implementation and consistent design integrity.
7. Reviews and monitors metrics on the program and provides
technical support to the program manager.
8. Interfaces with functional engineering organizations to ensure programs
are adequately staffed and executed. Approves cost account manager assignments for the program.
9. Manages
engineering risk and abatement actions in cooperation with the assigned system engineering manager.
10. Identifies
and coordinates the necessary equipment and facility resources required to successfully execute the program.
11.
Mentors cost account managers and may provide input to performance appraisals for engineers on the assigned program.
12. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.CRITICAL SKILLS / UNIQUE TASKS:
- Ability to provide
design and analysis support for systems used on the largest aircraft ever built. The systems include propulsion,
hydraulics, pneumatics, flight controls, landing gear and electrical power.
- Familiar with 747 electrical and
mechanical aircraft systems and able to conceptualize multi 747 aircraft systems integrated into a new, fully composite
aircraft.
- Familiar with both commercial and military aircraft standards.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Scientific field from an accredited college or university or its
equivalent and a minimum of ten (10) years work experience; or a Master's Degree and eight (8) years experience.
Work experience must be in the aerospace industry with demonstrated working knowledge of aircraft systems.
