Key Responsibilities:

* Design and implement legislative campaigns for Environmental Defense Fund in conjunction with program and regional
staff to achieve desired outcomes;
* Develop and implement strategies to broaden and enhance Environmental Defense Fund's relationships with Members of
California legislature and their staffs;
* Build effective coalitions of diverse California based and non-California based organizations to better achieve
results;
* Focus on the state funding process, including budget and appropriations;
* Prepare communications materials for media, policy-makers and various stakeholders to build support and understanding
for our positionsAttend legislative committee hearings.
* Monitor legislative debates.
* Prepare and submit reports detailing legislative activities
* Track and monitor legislation throughout the legislative process
* Read and analyze the potential impact of proposed legislation.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be able to develop and implement aggressive legislative strategies to achieve Environmental
Defense Fund's goals. Other desired qualifications include:

* JD degree desired
* 5 - 10 years of legislative experience preferred
* Must have experience working with legislature in Sacramento
* Demonstrated ability to lead a policy campaign
* Successful experience in lobbying and advocacy
* Strong written and verbal skills with the expertise to communicate complex regulatory issues to lay audiences
* Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
* Capable of mobilizing scientific, legal, economic and other experts to explain public policy initiatives.
* Capable of managing a diverse workload.
