Thoratec Corporation currently has an opportunity available as a Director of Accounting based in our Corporate HQ
located in Pleasanton, Ca.
The Director of Accounting will provide technical and administrative leadership for general accounting, payroll, and
accounts payable personnel. Oversee the preparation of required financial statements and audits, maintain the integrity
of the financial reporting systems and provide analytical support regarding financial statements and general ledger.
Continuously evaluate and improve processes throughout all areas of responsibility.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Plan, organize and coordinate all activities of the general accounting function to ensure accurate and timely
recording and reporting of all financial results for organization.
* Ensure accurate and timely reporting and analysis of financial data.
* Assist and direct the coordination of audits and quarterly reviews with external auditors.
* Analyze the current accounting policies/procedures (US GAAP) and ensure that all structures are appropriately
documented and executed. Actively participate in and drive system/procedural changes where necessary.
* Plan, organize and coordinate all activities within the payroll department to ensure the accurate and timely
processing and disbursement of company payroll and data to payroll related vendors..
* Oversee tge activities of the accounts payable function to ensure accurate processing of vendor invoices while
optimizing cashflow.
* Ability to communicate effectively and build strong relationships throughout the organization.
* Develop a strong relationship with the corporate executives, including Human Resources while representing the
compliance requirements of the Finance organization.
* Coach, develop and mentor accounting staff.
* Requires the ability to manage staff, while also being a hands-on contributor.
* Ensure SOX compliance with in all areas of responsibility
* Act as the catalyst for process improvements in the Finance and Accounting organization.
* Serve as a steward of the control environment at the divisional level, along with contribution to the overall
controls at Thoratec.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
* Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA required, MBA desirable.
* 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting experience.
* Public accounting experience with "Big-4" a plus.
* Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC regulations, FASB pronouncements, EITFs etc.
* Experience with cost accounting, manufacturing and foreign currency translation methods is beneficial.
* Solid background in payroll processes and procedures is a plus.
* Prior participation in the preparation of SEC filings
* Very strong leadership experience, including excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong at execution, follow-up and attention to detail
* Energetic go-getter with new ideas
* Is able to successfully multi-task in a fast paced environment
* Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
* Strong Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills required, database development management and manipulation a plus.
