San Diego is home to one of the largest biotech clusters in the nation, and there are a number of universities in the city that offer pharmaceutical and biotech-related degree programs. These include California State University San Marcos, San Diego State University and University of California San Diego. Students who wish to pursue San Diego pharmaceutical jobs in sales should have a strong background in chemistry and biology, as well as marketing and/or sales.

Employers:

Hundreds of biomedical and pharmaceutical companies are headquartered or have major operations in San Diego, including Gen-Probe, Pfizer, and Novartis. Over 40,000 pharmaceutical jobs in California are based in the San Diego area, and employment growth is expected to be very strong, presenting opportunities in research and development, management, administration, sales and production.
