Schools:
As with most service sector jobs, the educational requirements for restaurant jobs in Ohio are usually no greater than "related experience" or "on-the-job training." Waiters and waitresses, cleaning staff, and some kitchen staff often begin with no job experience whatsoever, which is why the restaurant industry is a popular choice for teens and students seeking part-time jobs. However, bartenders, chefs/cooks and restaurant managers often need some type of formal training. The Cleveland area is home to a number of bartending and culinary schools, including The Loretta Paganini School of Cooking. Many Ohio colleges and universities offer associate or bachelor's degree programs in restaurant and/or hospitality management.
Employers:
Cleveland is home to hundreds of fine-dining establishments, family restaurants and fast-food outlets. The Baricelli Inn, located in a mansion built in 1896 by Dutch architect John Grant, was included on the 2008 AAA/CAA Four Diamond Restaurants list and is a famous Cleveland landmark. Giovanni's is a popular, five-star, independent and multi-award-winning restaurant. Fine-dining chains such as Fleming's and Brio are notable sources of restaurant jobs in Cleveland. Other popular eateries in the Cleveland area include Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse, Tommy's and That Place on Bellflower.
