Most service-based hotel jobs in L.A. require only related customer service experience and/or on-the-job training. To qualify for Los Angeles hotel jobs in management, particularly at more prestigious hotels, a degree in hospitality management or hospitality administration is recommended, along with relevant experience. The Business and Management department of the UCLA extension program offers a concentration in hotel management. Distance learning or online education through the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute is another alternative for aspiring hotel managers.

Los Angeles is home to some of the world's most lavish and unique hotels. The Queen Mary Hotel in Long Beach is aboard a luxurious ocean liner that has been permanently docked since 1967. Mondrian, Le Meridien, and Hotel Bel-Air are a few high-end favorites in L.A. Of course, Marriott, Hyatt, Ritz-Carlton and other luxury hotel chains are also primary sources of California hotel jobs.
