Illinois is one of the most important states in the country for higher education, which is a double boon for students, who can experience world-class training before pursuing teaching careers and other opportunities in the state's massive education and research sectors. Lists of the best universities in Illinois for aspiring education professionals usually begin with the University of Chicago, which is consistently ranked as one of the top 10 universities in the world. The School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University was ranked this year by U.S. News & World Report as the seventh-best graduate school of education in the country. Another prominent school that would equip one to pursue Illinois education jobs is the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; it was ranked by U.S. News as the country's eighth-best public university.
