Schools:
The types of jobs available in the California aviation industry run the gamut from ticket agents and baggage handlers to cabin crew, pilots and aircraft mechanics. A college degree is not necessary for all aviation jobs in California, though it is standard for flight attendants and technical personnel. Pilots, flight engineers, mechanics/technicians and air traffic controllers must complete an FAA-certified training or licensing course. There are numerous flight schools and aviation maintenance schools throughout the state, including Redstone College in Los Angeles and Mazzei Flying Service in Fresno. Many pilots also enter the airline industry via the U.S. Armed Forces. Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, CA, offers a nationally recognized, FAA-approved air traffic controller program.
Employers:
California airline jobs can be found at airports and national and regional carriers all across the state. Other sources of aviation jobs include aerospace manufacturing companies, air taxi services, companies with their own transport and cargo fleets, and government (including the FAA).
